LI-DOG is a community organization dedicated to increasing recreational opportunities for Long Island dog owners and their dogs. The group's efforts focus primarily on promoting the development and improvement of dog parks and responsible pet ownership.
The organization was founded in 1998 by a group of Huntington dog owners, led by Barbara Buscareno, who remains active in the organization, and is headed by Ginny Munger-Kahn, president.
Last year [2007], LI-DOG was responsible for getting legislation passed that will create five new dog parks in Suffolk County. The group is working to increase off-leash opportunities in Nassau County, as well.
